World Storytelling Day 2012

On March 21, 2012 (and in the days that come before and after) all around the world, storytellers will be celebrating Trees.  There will be treetop tightropes stringing far flung peoples together from all around the globe.

Whether we remember Ask and Embla the first humans made from Ash and Elm trees, if we think of treetop hideaways from maurading witches, ruminate about the dragon Nidhogg who nibbles at the root of Yggdrasil, that world tree that brings life to all or family trees, spirits of trees, Tolkein’s trees and more, we find that we have a relationship with trees.

There are many stories of trees.  There are the climbing trees from our childhood that made us taller, gave us the chance to peek and spy on neighbours;  that gave us that screen of invisibility.  We could be silent observers of the world around us.

In 1997 the children (including mine) of Dr.Coffin School adopted a natural aspen forest and named it Whispering Woods.

World Storytelling Day 2012I will post the audio of the story that I found in the wood as soon as i figure out how to do that!
